The design for the new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai South, has been approved by Sheikh Mohammed

On Sunday, the Dubai Ruler gave his approval to the plans for Al Maktoum International Airport’s new passenger terminal. Over ten years, all operations at Dubai International Airport will be progressively transferred to the new airport.

Work on the Dh128 billion terminal will begin immediately as part of the plan that the Dubai Aviation Corporation has in mind. The airport, which will occupy 70 square kilometers, will feature 400 aircraft gates in addition to five parallel runways.

After completion, it will have five times the space of the current Dubai International Airport (DXB). The new airport will also make use of technologies that have never been used in the aviation sector.

Announcing social media platform X, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said, “Al Maktoum International Airport will be the largest in the world with a final capacity of up to 260 million passengers.”

In his post, the Dubai Ruler wrote: “We are preparing for a new phase in the growth of the global aviation sector. We are preparing for a phase in which Dubai leads the international aviation sector for the next forty years.”

One million more homes will be needed because an entire airport city is being planned for Dubai South. Based at this ideal location will be the biggest aviation and logistics companies in the world.
